A Tour of Los Angeles

Los Angeles skyline from observation towerLos Angeles is a sprawling metropolitan area with an amazing array of attractions and activities. The area is infamous for its long grids of streets and freeways and until recently it wasn’t very friendly to public transit.

But things are changing for the better. It is now possible to visit many of the iconic places in LA by rail or by express bus. So, get your backpack, phone and camera ready and follow me on this exploration tour.

San Diego Bike Tour

Old Town San Diego - Flickr - by Jasperdo After enjoying a great e-bike ride through Santa Barbara, we decided to do the same in San Diego. We booked a tour with “Another Side Of San Diego”. This tour operator offers many private and group tours. See their offerings here.

We selected the “Old Town & Balboa Park eBike Tour”. We have visited both places in the past but thought it would be fun to go at a more leisurely pace.

Pismo Beach, CA

Pismo Beach Pier Pismo Beach is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, on the Central Coast. It is located along the Pacific Ocean, about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Traveler usually just zip by on the way to other destinations like Hearst Castle, Monterey, or San Francisco, but this beach town deserves a visit on its own.

Pismo Beach is known for its beautiful beaches, a popular pier, parks, nature preserves, and hiking trails.

Nearby, in Oceano Dunes, visitors enjoy offroad vehicle fun on the dunes.

We recently spent a few days exploring this town and found many things to do.

Where to stay at Yosemite

nullThe decision on where to spend the nights at Yosemite depends on your preference, budget, and your planning skills. You can find very inexpensive tent cabins or you can go all the way and stay at the luxurious Ahwahnee Hotel (Majestic Yosemite Hotel). You can rough it at a campground or go on a backpacking trip through the wilderness.

Whatever you decide to do, you will need to plan way ahead. All hotels, lodges, and campsites are booked many months ahead of time. Some of the more popular ones are booked 12 months in advance.

Lodging

In my opinion, the best lodge for the value is Yosemite Lodge at the Fall (Yosemite Valley Lodge). It is located right on the valley floor next to Yosemite Fall. It is a large complex with about 240 rooms, a swimming pool, a food court, a restaurant, shops, bicycle rentals, and many other amenities. Rooms will run you around $200 per night depending on the season.

The main drawback is that there is no air conditioning in the rooms and if you want WiFi for your gadgets you will need to go to the main lobby.

Disney World Water Parks

Disney World - Typhoon Lagoon and Mount Mayday - Surf Pool - Wikipedia by JZ85Within Disney World’s sprawling complex of theme parks, you will find two Water Parks, each with a distinct personality.

Imagine a hurricane whipping through a tropical island, destroying homes and throwing wrecked ships on top of mountains. Then add slides, waterway, and geysers to come up with this wild wet fun place designed by Disney.
